Keyword and Spatial Search in Navigo

Voyager Search's Navigo interface provides a range of flexible and powerful search options to help users discover and filter their data more efficiently. Here outlines the key search capabilities and configuration options available in Navigo.

1. Basic Search

  • Keyword Search: Enter one or more terms to find content across all indexed fields.

    • What are you looking for? search bar - Enter keywords or phrases to search for specific content across the indexed data.

    • Where is it located? search bar - Define a geographic area to filter results based on spatial location.

  • Auto-Complete Suggestions: As you type in both of the search bars, Navigo displays real-time suggestions based on indexed terms.

2. Advanced Search

  • Field-Specific Queries: Target specific fields using syntax like title:"river" or author:smith.

  • Boolean Operators: Use AND, OR, and NOT to combine or exclude terms (e.g., forest AND "remote sensing").

  • Phrase Search: Use quotation marks to search for exact phrases (e.g., "protected area").

  • Wildcard Search: Use * and ? for partial matches (e.g., hydro* for hydrology, hydrography, etc.).

3. Spatial Search

  • Search by Geometries: Use the available geometries to search for data that’s geotagged within a a location/region on the map.

NOTE: Selecting the pencil icon next to your geometry after drawing it on the map will provide an option for creating a buffer around the geometry where a user can set how much of a buffer they need and also in what units (e.g., kilometers, miles, meters, feet, lat/long degree).

 

Use the dropdown menu next to the search bars to specify how spatial data should be matched to your geometry. Select Within to limit results to data entirely contained within your geometry, or choose Intersects to include data that overlaps or touches your geometry boundaries.

 

4. Sort and View Options

  • Sort By: Choose to sort results by relevance, date acquired, title, or other available fields.

  • Display Views: Toggle between map, card, table, grid or summary view based on preference or task.

5. Query Expansion & Synonyms

  • Synonym Matching: Configure and select from synonym terms to enhance discoverability with option to remove any search and query terms.

  • Stemming and Lemmatization: Optionally enabled to match different forms of a word (e.g., "run", "running").
