Voyager Server License and Initial Setup

Voyager Server License and Initial Setup

During the initial setup and activation of Voyager Server, you will need to complete the following steps to access and begin using your instance. Alternatively, you can download the complete guide:

Instructions

Step 1: Now that you have installed Voyager Server on your machine as a service, you are ready to configure your instance. Navigate to your web browser and type http://localhost:8888 into the URL bar. This should direct you to the license setup page and allow you to configure your instance.

Step 2: Now that you have installed Voyager on your machine as a service, you are ready to configure your instance. For Step 1, if you already have a license provided by our Voyager Team then paste the license key into the text box. Click Next

NOTE: If you are able to proceed to Step 2 then the license key will be considered valid.

You can learn how to request and install licenses here:

Step 3: In Step 2 you will be able to configure key settings for your instance. Under Server Information, you can customize your Server's name as well as specify the URL for the Server.

  • Server Name

  • Server URL

    • NOTE: this must be a unique address

Under Indexing Settings, check the desired options that will apply when indexing any associated items in your instance. To learn more about each option, hover over the information icon next to each of the index setting options or see the details below.

There are four indexing settings that also appear in the Manage UI, but are gathered here for convenience:

  • Use "More Like This" indexing feature - This feature offers a quick way to identify similar records in search results.

  • Store full text - This setting stores all of the text in the text field so that it is available for other features, such as More Like This.

  • Store geometry - This option stores the full geometric description of the extent of each record. Adding a full geometric description provides more accuracy in a spatial search, but may take up more space and increases the physical size of the index. See Saving Full Geometry Information in the Index for more details about storing geometry vs storing a bounding box.

  • Store bounding box - This stores a rectangle enclosing the extent of each record.

Under the Gazetteer Options, check the single option to Load administrative boundaries for states and provinces if this is relevant to your particular data set. Check this option if you would like to index and search for content in your instance that relate to administrative boundaries for states and provinces for countries around the world.

NOTE: The Indexing Settings and Gazetteer Options can significantly impact system resources, including processing and memory usage.

Once the desired settings have been configured then select Next to move to the final step.

Step 4: Step 3 indicates that the setup process is complete and you can begin using Voyager Server. Select Done to login in to your account.

NOTE: If you would like to make any changes in the previous steps, you can go back by selecting the numbered steps at the top of the page.

Step 5: In the Voyager login page, type in the default login credentials provided in the yellow message box. Alternatively, you can select Username=admin Password=admin and it will automatically populate the username and password field with the default credentials. Once the default username and password is entered, select Login to access your instance and begin using Voyager Server.

Step 6: You have now logged into your instance as an admin and it opens up to Voyager Server’s Manage UI where you can now begin managing your instance.

IMPORTANT: After logging in using the provided credentials, it is critical that you change your password for security reasons. To change your password, go to Manage > Security > Authentication > Internal. Select your account name and then click Change Password where you can enter a more secure password for logging into your instance.
